First Ford Focus RS Assembled

The first Ford Focus RS has rolled off the assembly line in Saarlouis, Germany. The arrival of the Focus RS to the United States is quite anticipated as the “hot hatch” promises 350 horsepower. Ford Performance engineers in Europe and the U.S. developed a specially crafted version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost that sends the hatch to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds.

Focus RS pioneers Ford’s Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring for increased handling, grip, cornering, and overall control.

Ford Focus RS has selectable drive modes for the first time, including drift mode that allows controlled oversteer drifts, and launch control off the line, which just sounds fun. Stopping responsibilities fall on Brembo discs with aerodynamic ventilation fins for enhanced cooling and immediate response.

The Ford Performance U.S. line will see three new models in 2016. Focus RS will be joined by F-150 Raptor this fall as the all-new Ford GT enters production late this year. Along with Focus ST and Fiesta ST, the lineup houses a pair of Shelby Mustangs, which debuted late last year. Ford Focus ST and Fiesta ST have enjoyed much success, as Ford’s performance cars continue an upward trend. Focus ST increased 9 percent while Fiesta ST rose 4 percent last year.

Ford Focus RS is one of 12 performance vehicles the automaker will introduce globally through 2020.
