Peter Palmer: Ram 1500 Stinger Draws On Colorful History

Ram Rumble Bee fans rejoice because Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has reintroduced a yellow with black hood stripes pickup, the 2017 Ram 1500 Stinger. The Rumble Bee was originally produced from 2004-2005.

The “Stinger” insignia has a very colorful history in the automotive world. The venomous designation was first used by GM during the production of the second-generation Corvette, which featured a stinger style hood. Later, GM introduced the Pontiac Stinger Concept, which interestingly featured two Dustbusters and a garden hose.

Why a garden hose? I have no idea.

Prior to the Ram 1500 Stinger, the last automaker to use the insignia was KIA. They melted the eyes and hearts of everyone when they unveiled the GT4 Stinger Concept.

No garden hose but we will let it slide …

If you are in the market for a truck, love the Stinger mantra, and have $43,340 to spend, then this Ram awaits. The special edition truck is available now as of this writing in both 4×4 and 4×2 versions. Regardless of the drivetrain selection, all trucks are motivated by a 5.7 L HEMI V8 with 395 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. 4×4 models are fitted with bright 20-inch rims, while the rear-wheel-drive models are fitted with baller 22-inch chrome rims.

Outside, the RAM 1500 Stinger can be differentiated from the rest of the Ram models with its Challenger-inspired, vented sport hood up front. Inside, the cabin is covered in black leather and includes dark-chrome and yellow accents, along with body-colored stitching. Uconnect with navigation and a backup camera are also included as standard features.

Just like its predecessor, the Ram Rumble Bee, it’s hard to say just how long the Stinger will be around.
