2017 F-150 Raptor Video Shows Truck’s Extreme Performance

Ford is preparing a six part monthly video series on the 2017 F-150 Raptor. Filmed in the Mojave Desert, the series highlights the truck’s extensive capabilities. In the F-150 lineup, the Raptor represents the pinnacle of off-road performance.

The 2017 F-150 Raptor keeps Ford’s current truck mentality of lighter is better. With a high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body, the new Raptor is 500 pounds lighter. Redesigned FOX Racing Shox provide more suspension travel for increased off-road performance.

The truck also features a new terrain management system and Torsen front differential.

The 2017 F-150 Raptor has a second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost versus the 6.2 V8. Numbers on the latter are 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft torque. According to Ford, this new EcoBoost will top that. A new 10-speed transmission enters the mix for the 2017 Raptor as well.

Ford’s off-road racing portfolio includes the Best in the Desert, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, and the Baja 1000. The 2017 F-150 Raptor was designed to compete at the highest levels with regard to these events. Although, not everybody who purchases one will use it off-road. When I was a Sales Consultant at Sioux Falls Ford, I sold one of the first Raptors we had in stock – the guy who bought it said it was nothing more than a “power toy” for driving to work and back.

The Raptor will be built at the Dearborn Truck Plant and go on sale this fall. In the meantime, enjoy the video below.
