Red Bull Global RallyCross has just announced the mystery location on their 2016 calendar – and they are heading north on the East Coast to Atlantic City, New Jersey. An interesting choice, perhaps, as Atlantic City struggles to maintain status as a tourist and nightlife destination while it’s casinos close; most famously, the 2014 closing of Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.
“Bader Field is a great location for Red Bull Global Rallycross,” said Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne. “Its wide open spaces will allow us to design one of the fastest tracks of the season, while its proximity to major urban markets ensures that our many passionate fans from the northeast will have a home race to attend. We can’t wait to bring our high-octane brand of motorsport to Atlantic City for the first time!”
With the final location announced, it is of note that the 2016 series will take place entirely within the United States, as the one remaining international event – Barbados – is not on the roster this year.
Yours truly was born in New Jersey, so no hate for the Garden State here. The course will be built on the site of a municipal airport, and is predicted to have clear views of the entire course for spectators. Speaking of spectators – right now, Red Bull GRC is offering an early bird special of $25 for adult general admission tickets for this venue through July 24 – with kids 12 and under free (with a paying adult.) Sun, sand, the ocean, and Red Bull GRC? Maybe not a strange choice after all – get your bronzer on and head to the Jersey Shore.
