Peter Palmer: Kia Rolls Two Million Vehicles in Georgia

Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc celebrated the plant’s two millionth vehicle – a white 2016 Sorento SXL. Employees and representatives celebrated as the vehicle rolled off the assembly line in West Point, Georgia.

“Assembling two million vehicles in less than seven years is a remarkable achievement, and one that each of our team members can take a lot of pride in,” said Hyun-Jong Shin, KMMG President and CEO.

KMMG opened on November 16th 2009 and now produces more than forty percent of all Kia vehicles sold in the United States.

Together with on-site and local suppliers, KMMG is responsible for the creation of more than 15,000 jobs in West Point and surrounding areas. Furthermore, Kia recently achieved its highest-ever ranking: a top five among vehicle assembly plants in the United States in J.D. Power’s most recent Initial Quality Study.

“Together, Kia and Georgia have a strong reputation of success,” said Nathan Deal, Georgia Governor.

The automaker invested more than 1 billion on the manufacturing plant in 2009. According to Governor Deal, Kia’s presence in Georgia is a testament to the state’s overall business climate.

“The company’s continued investment in the state speaks volumes to our pro-business atmosphere, and we will continue to support them as they grow here,” he said.
