Ford GT Snap Kits Available at NAIAS

Kids visiting the 2016 North American International Auto Show can get their very first Ford GT. The free, limited edition snap kits are the third collaboration between Ford and Revell since 2013. Ford is giving away the Revell-built Ford GT snap kits at their NAIAS exhibit.

A retail line is expected to follow in April.

The kits are 14 pieces and will feature an NAIAS stamp on the bottom, denoting a special edition. The retail model is a little more detailed; it has 28 pieces and will take 10 to 15 minutes to assemble. The retail kit will be $14.99.

Revell designs and distributes SnapTite Build & Play and SnaptTite, along with pre-decorated, full glue, and paint model kits. Their products encompass virtually every subject and age group. Ford has worked with Illinois-based Revell to create these kits for auto shows and retail sale since 2013. The licensing agreement started with Mustang, followed by Raptor.

“We’ve always enjoyed building Ford products,” said Brian Eble, Revell’s Vice President of Marketing. “Ford’s iconic designs make them a great brand to replicate.”

According to Eble, the Ford line is quite popular.

“From first time model builders to master builders, Ford products continue to be one of the most sought after subject matter for scale plastic model kits,” he said.

NAIAS is held at the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit and runs January 11th through the 24th. It’s one of the world’s most influential auto shows and last year, over 5,000 journalists attended from 60 countries. That meant 30 percent of the international media were reporting at NAIAS.

With thousands of visitors expected, Ford feels the snap kits are a way to enjoy NAIAS and meet new faces.

“Our annual Revell Make ‘n Take model kit program has become a fun-filled auto show tradition,” said Mark Bentley, Ford Licensing Manager. “Letting kids build their own Ford GT is a great way to introduce them to the Ford brand and create new enthusiasts.”

I have a feeling adults (like me) will enjoy this just as much as the kids!
