Automoblog’s Top 6: Best Apps For Your Car

The whole concept of an app is to conveniently deliver content and services to your life by making them easily accessible. Drivers get the same courtesy from code-monkeys that care about us car enthusiasts.

In general, technology makes our lives easier. Although not highly publicized, drivers are also catered to with quality and innovative apps that make long commutes more fun and bearable.

Here are The Best Apps For Your Car.

Top 6: Best Apps for your Car6.) TomTom

TomTom is saving you from carrying unnecessary objects around, like a phone AND a portable sat nav. Available on both iOS and Android, TomTom is not the cheapest of solutions, requiring both an initial $24.99 once-off payment and a yearly subscription. But it provides you with clear offline maps, voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation, as well as live traffic updates.

Carcorder would make for some excellent evidence if you find yourself in a car crash, but it also means you can capture some fantastic footage, as so many dash-cams have over the years. Carcorder and a dashboard mount turns your iPhone into a capable dash-cam, allowing you to switch between multiple resolutions, track your location, and know when you’re driving too fast.

A large number of cars offer automatic braking systems, detecting when you are closing in on an object ahead of you too quickly. For $4.99, iOnRoad isn’t a perfect substitute for this, partly because you need to (ironically) keep an eye on your phone’s screen, but it can be helpful. iOnRoad is peculiar but deserving of a spot in our Best Apps for your Car list.

Top 6: Best Apps for your Car 3.) iCarMode

Allowing you to use your dashboard mounted iPhone safely, for $1.99 iCarMode offers up a big buttoned display, making it simple for you to activate a music player, call your friends, and check for places nearby. Custom app shortcuts support apps such as Spotify, Audible, and TuneIn Radio, saving you from having to look at overly small buttons every time you want to make an adjustment on your trip.

Top 6: Best Apps for your Car2.) Dashdroid

The best Android dashboard replacement, Dashdroid keeps it simple with eight custom buttons and a central display. The display offers the current time, weather, as well as your current speed, while voice commands ensure you don’t have to take your hands off the steering wheel to make a call or text. And did I mention it’s FREE?!

Top 6: Best Apps for your Car1.) Spotify

Lastly, and my personal favorite on the Best Apps for your Car list is Spotify (I live outside the U.S. but a techie can get Spotify up and running regardless). There’s no need to be restricted to using the traditional radio to listen to music any more. Streaming services like Spotify have taken off through your PC or phone, but they can be just as easily enjoyed in your car.

Some cars offer Spotify directly to your dashboard but for everyone else, you can use Bluetooth or an auxiliary jack to hook things up. The free app lets you listen to any artist or album, provided you have an internet connection, while subscribing offers offline listening and ad-free music.
